The short answer
For most first visits, choose Maspalomas or Playa del Inglés. They offer the largest accommodation range and make a car optional. Families wanting an easy, calm beach should compare Amadores and San Agustín; couples wanting polished evenings should look at Meloneras or Puerto de Mogán; city travelers should stay near Las Canteras in Las Palmas.
The island is compact, but a base in the wrong setting can mean steep daily walks or long transfers. Compare the neighborhood, not only the property score.
