The day plan

Guide times, not fixed appointments. The order works in either direction.

  1. Arrival

    Bus 91, car or taxi

Line 91 links the airport with Puerto Rico along the GC-1. By car it is about 60 km from LPA. The shopping-centre car park is the easiest option with children or a board.

    How do I get there?

  2. The beach

    1–2 hours

A south-facing man-made bay closed off by two breakwaters: some of the calmest water on the south-west coast, and swell is rarely an issue. Sunbeds, showers, toilets and a lifeguard.

    Is it good for swimming?

  3. Lunch at the harbour

    60–90 minutes

Two different moods: the marina terraces looking over the boats, or the shopping-centre places, shadier and easier with families.

    Where should I eat?

  4. Walk to Amadores

    40–50 minutes there and back

A paved promenade along the cliff links Puerto Rico with Playa de Amadores. It is flat, railed, with a viewpoint halfway. No shade: go early or late.

    Is the walk worth it?

  5. Boat or sunset

    2–3 hours

Catamarans, whale and dolphin trips and the yellow submarine all leave from the harbour. If you would rather stay on land, the viewpoint above the marina is the best sunset spot.

    What about the afternoon?

If you came for the boat Most trips leave the marina in the morning. If that is your plan, do it first and keep the beach for afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get to Puerto Rico from the airport?
By car on the GC-1 it is about 60 km, 45 to 60 minutes. Global line 91 covers the route by bus. A taxi is direct but considerably more expensive.
Is Puerto Rico beach good for swimming?
Yes. It is a south-facing man-made bay closed off by two breakwaters, so the water stays very sheltered and swell is rarely an issue. It is one of the calmest beaches on the south-west coast and works well with children.
How long is the walk to Playa de Amadores?
About 20–25 minutes along the paved cliff promenade, which has a railing and a viewpoint halfway. There is no shade on the whole stretch.
Is Puerto Rico worth it if I am already going to Mogán?
They are different days. Mogán is the village with the canals and the market; Puerto Rico is a sheltered beach, shopping, and the harbour the boat trips leave from. They are 15 minutes apart by car.
Where do the boat trips leave from?
From the marina, right by the beach. Catamarans, whale and dolphin trips and the tourist submarine all depart from there.
