Enjoy with Freedom and Respect
Gran Canaria is one of the most popular nudist destinations in the world, and many dare to try it for the first time here. If you are a beginner at being without clothes, we tell you what the etiquette rules are to enjoy it with total freedom and respect.
Fundamental Etiquette Rules
Choose your spot well
Although nudism is legal on all beaches, it is better to choose one where it is common. Places like Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas, Tiritaña, Medio Almud, Montaña de Arena or Guayedra are safe options.
Do as the locals do
If you are not sure if a beach is nudist, watch the Canarians. Often one end of the beach is nudist without official signage. For example, in Aguadulce (east zone) or in El Confital (western end).
Space, please
Always respect others' personal space. The unwritten rule is to leave a prudent distance between towels.
⛱️ Recommended rule:
~10 meters
distance
Careful with cameras
We know the experience is liberating, but be very careful when taking photos. Others' privacy is paramount.
- Take discreet photos, never point at other people.
- If someone feels uncomfortable, put the camera away immediately.
Going to the beach bar?
To go to the bar or a restaurant, courtesy dictates covering up. No need for formal wear, a sarong or shorts is sufficient.
Don't stare
Staring is rude on any beach, and on a nudist one, even more so. Relax, the novelty wears off quickly, and soon you won't even notice people are naked.
Not even with sunglasses.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I stay dressed?
Yes, nudism is optional. No one will force you to undress if you don't want to. Feel free.
Is it safe for solo travelers?
Absolutely. The nudist community in Gran Canaria is very respectful. Simply use common sense, like anywhere else.
What if someone stares?
It's best to ignore it. If it is really bothering you, you can change spots or, at lifeguarded beaches, inform the lifeguard.
